Walking in and around Moffat
The best way to experience the outstanding beauty of the countryside around Moffat is by walking.
Moffat is Scotland's first Walkers are Welcome town and the perfect place for your walking holiday, whether you're looking for short strolls or strenuous hikes in the hills.
Hillside, woodland, waterside and town walks are all accessible from Kirsty Cottage on foot within minutes.
We have a series of booklets featuring walks of all levels in and around Moffat.
These are also available online at www.visitmoffat.co.uk, where you'll find many more scenic routes to enjoy.
Long distance walkers can cover sections of Britain's first official coast to coast footpath, the Southern Upland Way, from Moffat.
The path runs 212 miles (340 km) from Portpatrick on the south-west coast to Cockburnspath on the eastern site.
It passes near Moffat and through spectacular scenery in the area, including the Loch of the Lowes and St Mary's Loch.
